SHAWN SKEIR art/music residency IN CONTXT

Shawn Skeir is a Toronto-based artist and musician.  For the past 25 year he has been a successful and prolific visual artist, predominantly as a fine art painter.  His work is part of several important private collections, and he has had several solo and group exhibitions throughout North America.  Additionally, Shawn has been a vocalist, who has performed for decades in various local venues, nightclubs, cabarets, and musical revues.  “I feel a sense of achievement in using my talents to help communities and charitable causes.  I feel it is important, as well as a great privilege, to have the opportunity to use my abilities as an artist to inspire and empower others toward a life lived with creativity and passion.”  He maintains the website skeirgallery.com.

Series 1: Tapestries, Faces, Masks and Markings

(Currently running)

Showing some of the earliest influences in Shawn’s art practice. This abstracted language of faces and figures has remained a central thread throughout his career, evolving into new materials and modes of expression. At times, it has crossed into calligraphic gesture, as in the foundational image “Meditation Man.” In other moments, it has taken shape through wood-etching techniques, such as in the wood panel work “King and Queen.”
